Introduction to AI

This PL has been TQI accredited for 5 hours.

To get this credit, you will use a workbook for this PL, which will then be emailed to bsssenquiries@act.gov.au for verification. Make sure you include your name and TQI number!

NEWSFLASH: there has been a recent update to the PL. If you were working on the old version and you need a copy of the booklet for the old version, email us at bsssenquiries@act.gov.au

Workbook

You can download the workbook file as a Word doc, PDF, or open it online as a Google Doc. We recommend using the Google or Word versions unless you have Acrobat Pro for PDF editing. Some questions will ask you not to use AI to answer them; this is because these questions are aimed at establishing your own thoughts and philosophies about AI.

Google Docs link -- you need to make a copy to fill in

PDF link -- download a copy and use Acrobat DC

Word Document -- download a copy and use Microsoft Word or another word processor

You will need to be willing to use a generative AI text program to get the most out of this work, because using the programs allows you to experiment with the ways in which students can manipulate and use programs to their advantage. You will also be using Quillbot (no sign up) and your choice of DeepAI (no sign up) or Dall-E (sign up).

ChatGPT: https://chat.openai.com/auth/login

Claude:  https://claude.ai/

At the time of writing, ChatGPT and Claude require signup with email but are otherwise free. Users can choose to pay. Free users will find that they get an “at capacity” notice if there are too many people using the tool. These notices are more likely during the American working day – if you’re getting a lot of error messages in the morning, try again in the afternoon Canberra time.

Logging in

We have had feedback that some people do not wish their email address to be associated with AI.

Bing

There is no way to avoid your Microsoft ID being associated with Bing; it is a fundamental feature of the search engine.

ChatGPT

Ways to avoid your email being associated with ChatGPT:

1. Use an email forwarding feature that comes with your operating system – for example, Apple’s “hide my email”

2. Create a “disposable” email address. Gizmodo offers advice for a number of providers and systems here: https://gizmodo.com/the-best-ways-to-hide-your-email-address-1848092989

3. Work on this PL with a colleague who has signed up to the program and is happy to enter prompts
