Kevin Johnson

Class of 2006

Kevin was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. Growing up he played sports year round. But he’s most known for baseball.

Kevin was part of the second class to come through all four years of West Florida Tech.

While here, Kevin lettered 3 years and had a career ERA of 0.77. Kevin was named to All County team and All-State teams during his sophomore and senior year.

To this day, he still holds the record at WFT for the lowest single season and career earned run average with a 0.31 ERA for single season and 0.77 ERA for career.

After high school Kevin signed at Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville, AL (now known as Coastal Alabama Community College).

While there he received All Conference his freshman and sophomore season and All American honors his sophomore season. He was selected for Team USA JC that played Taiwan in Millington, TN at USA Stadium.

After two years at Alabama Southern, Kevin signed to finish his playing career at University of West Florida here in Pensacola.

While there Kevin was named Pitcher of the Week 7 times, Gulf South Conference First Team 2 times and was named Louisville Pitcher of the Week 2 times.

Kevin also threw the 1st no hitter in UWF history on April 11, 2010, which was also his mothers birthday.

After 2 years at UWF, Kevin signed with the Pensacola Pelicans independent team where he played for just a few weeks before being selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 20th round of the 2010 draft (624 overall).

Kevin spent 6 seasons with the Angels making it as high as AAA. He was selected as the 2013 All-Star team in the Texas League (AA). That year Kevin broke the saves record for the league with 21 saves.

Kevin was selected to attend the 2012 Freeway Series where he played with Angels roster at Dodger Stadium. He had the amazing opportunity of pitching to Matt Kemp, getting him to ground out in a double play with Albert Pujols making the final out of that inning at first base.

In 2012 Kevin was selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League, and he was invited to attend Big League Spring Training in 2013 and 2014.

Once retired Kevin and his wife Courtney opened a baseball academy in Pace, FL. He has been leading teams in travel ball and showcase ball. He also gives private lessons, holds camps and clinics and coached his daughters tball team this past spring.

Kevin has helped over 40 players achieve their goals of playing in collegiate baseball. Some of those players have come from this same program.

He spent 2 seasons coaching at the collegiate level at Coastal Alabama CC.

Kevin has been married to his wife Courtney for almost 11 years. They have 2 children Addelyn (6) and Koby (4). Together as a family they own and operate The Barn in Pace. Kevin is currently enrolled and set to finish his college degree at Troy University.

He foresees himself retiring on a field somewhere, doing all of the above.
