Kellen Shelton

Class of 2005

Kellen Shelton is a Pensacola native and West Florida High School of Advanced Technology 2005 graduate and part of the 2001 inaugural class. He received his certificate of mastery from the WFHS Criminal Justice Program.

Currently, Kellen serves as a Special Agent at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he conducts federal investigations of transnational and international criminal organizations. He is also a Certified Sharpshooter (Firearms) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Previously, Kellen served as an IRS Agent, with the U.S. Department of Treasury, where he conducted financial investigations of government entities with sophisticated money laundering activities.

In 2011, Kellen began his federal career as a mail clerk with the U.S. Department of Treasury. He quickly, rose through the ranks and served in various capacities such as tax auditor, advisory specialist, and unit leader. Kellen also taught tax law for two years and became the youngest African American supervisor at the U.S. Department of Treasury in Texas.

In 2018, Kellen was selected as a member of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Category Management Project Team. He evaluated DOJ’s $71.1 billion-dollar budget on cost effective professional services and reviewed acquisition procedures, from the President’s Management Agenda of Category Management (PMA).

Kellen received numerous awards during his tenure with the U.S. Department of Treasury including Dedicated Service Recipient and Outstanding Performance honors.

Kellen received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Tuskegee University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University, and dual certificates in Accounting and Project Management from Champlain College.

Kellen is a proud member of the Pensacola (FL) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Kellen holds memberships in the Association Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA-North America).

Kellen has credited his godfather, Retired Chief of Police (Pensacola Police Department) David Alexander III for being a pillar in the community and encouraging his interest in law enforcement.

Kellen has invested his time and energy into uplifting young at-risk children, who desire to change their path in life and follow a career in public service. He has plans to speak to current Criminal Justice students at WFHS, to showcase the diverse opportunities that a career in law enforcement at all levels can provide.

Kellen has carried that “Jaguar Spirit” throughout his life and wants to inspire current students and alumni to not allow limitations to hinder your success.
