Last Tuesday and Thursday, Earlham Community Schools held their semi-annual Scholastic Book Fair during conference week. The turnout was amazing this year—many more students came by, including a lot of upper elementary students who haven’t usually attended in the past. Instead of donating books directly to teachers, families could add money to an E-Wallet so teachers could pick out books that fit their classroom interests. According to Maggie Scherer, the Activities Administrative Assistant, the “Share the Fair” program raised over $70—more than $20 higher than last year! Thanks to these donations, the library can buy new books right away instead of waiting until summer.

Every other Thursday the Lighthouse team meets to improve school leadership and culture. In Lighthouse there are three different committees that take on different roles. First, there is the Culture group, this group focuses on updating the birthday board and adding positive visuals around our school! The leadership group has been working on new posters for the classrooms focusing on responsibility, respectfulness, and pride. While doing this they also update the athletics board with new information about competitions. Lastly, there is the academics group. Lately the main focus for the academic group is encouraging good attendance habits. To promote this they have been working on creating a skit to show to students! Together these groups are upholding the leader in me values and carrying out the 7 habits!

Coming up on Thursday, October 9th, Earlham High School will host its Second Annual Application Day! All seniors are welcome to join Mr. Evans and Mr. Rude at Bricker Price Block to apply for colleges, trade schools, and even scholarships. We strongly encourage everyone to attend. This is a great opportunity to get assistance with preparing for life after high school! A senior who attended last year’s Application Day said, “Application Day helped me take the shot and just apply and see what happened.” Another senior shared, “It was really helpful to have someone there walking me through each step.” So come check out Application Day — we hope to see you there!

On Saturday, September 27th, Earlham hosted its 2025 Homecoming Dance! For the freshman class, this was their first official high school dance. To get a sense of their experience, we spoke with a couple of freshmen about how the night went. Freshman Sannia LeFlore shared, “I really enjoyed it! Hanging out with upperclassmen was way better than just being with the lower classmen. I loved dancing with everyone, it was so much fun!” Elise Fredrickson, another freshman, added, “It felt like a middle school dance, but way fancier with all the dresses!” We’re thrilled to hear that the freshmen had such a great time at their first high school dance. Here's to many more fun memories in the years to come!
On Friday, September 26, the EHS Lighthouse hosted the first Lead Like a Cardinal buddy group activity, which will now take place on the last Friday of each month from 8:05 to 8:30 a.m. High school advisory groups were paired with middle and elementary school students. After introductions, the groups participated in singing the school song and cheering with the cheerleaders. The Lead Like a Cardinal initiative forms opportunities for all students to synergize as we build a strong, united school culture.
Please join us this Friday so we can retake our all-school picture. This will take place at 8:05, so please arrive early. Thanks, Cards!
On Wednesday, we had our college and career fair, and it went very well. Seniors did MOC interviews, where we had some great adults come in and interview the students to get experience. The juniors got the chance to talk to colleges and see all the different colleges, and learn about them. The sophomores and freshmen had workers come in and talk about their jobs and careers. This gave students chances to learn about job paths that people took and learn more about them, and possibly eye open it for others. Colleges were very good for the juniors to learn about and start thinking about.
