The girls of the varsity wrestling team stepped onto the mat this season with grit, determination, and a drive that couldn’t be matched. From early-season tournaments to the final matches of the year, they faced tough opponents, celebrated hard-earned victories, and proved that their teamwork and perseverance could carry them through every challenge. On January 30th, the girls had their final matches of the season competing to go to state. The girls varsity team started with 5 girls: Sannia Leflore, Taylor Sinclair, Lily Strandberg, Kim Doud, and Zoe Nixt. Unfortunately at the beginning of the season Taylor and Sannia faced injuries that took them out for the rest of the season. Even though this set them back a little bit, the other 3 girls picked up the slack and finished the season strong! The girls even broke some school records! Kim Doud broke the record for the most escapes in a season with it previously being 16, she got 17! Lily Strandberg also broke a school record for the fastest pin. Previously this record was 16 seconds and Lily pinned a girl in 12 seconds! Zoe Nixt didn’t quite get a record this season but she is on track to break the school record for most takedowns in a career! The girls wrestling team is always looking for new members to join the team! Great job to all these girls on a successful season and we are looking forward to next season!

The Earlham boys varsity basketball team is entering the season with high expectations, new coaching, and a clear goal: to compete every night. The Earlham boys basketball team is a little past halfway into their season! The boys have competed in many close and competitive games. Beating teams such as Pleasantville, Interstate 35, and West Central Valley and competing very closely with teams such as Des Moines Christian, Baxter, and Van meter but coming up a little bit short.
Currently the Varsity record sits at 9-6, sitting at 4th in the West Central activities conference. The boys basketball team got a whole new coaching staff this season including Austin Ash, Zack Reynolds, Kaden Howard, and Dawson Madren. This team plays together as a team with different leaders in each aspect. At this point the leading scorer for the Varsity team is Griffin Messer with 246 points! Carter Frank leads the teams in rebounds with 138. And lastly, Brady Reynolds leads the team in assists with 74. Seniors Griffin Messer and Blaine Tiedemen are the only returning starters this year but many other varsity players returned such as Brady Reynolds, Carter Frank, and Brodie Hamilton. This year the team also gained seniors Coy Swain and Blaine Tiedemen, juniors Reed Williams, Cash Eitel and Alex Koloske, sophomores Payton Dickson, Gabe Lockner, Hayden Ealy, and Brody Coates, and last but not least freshman Austen Rodgers and Jackson Koberg!
The Varsity boys have 7 regular season games left, 4 of them being conference games. Some good games to look forward to are Madrid and Des Moines Christian later on! Then they head into post-season games hoping to make it far!

The past week was filled with wrestling, with JV boys on Monday, Varsity boys quad on Thursday, and Varsity boys and girls tournaments on Saturday. The week was filled with lots of success, new milestones, and an exciting senior night!
On Monday January 5th, Andrew Vanzee, Jack Mcclure, AJ Dunsky, and Cooper Morrison wrestled against ADM, ACGC, Nodaway Valley, and I-35.
Then on Thursday January 8th, the boys wrestling team had their first home quad of the season! The boys went up against Southeast Valley and Ogden. The night was very successful, beating Southeast Valley 59-18 and Ogden 57-19. Earlham boys also had their senior night spotlighting Ethan Winey, Josh Winey, and Konnar Stiles. At the beginning of the season Ethan Winey went out with a shoulder injury but continues to be a part of the team by helping out with different aspects. Josh Winey returned this season after being injured his Sophomore and Junior season. Qualifying for state his freshman year, he hopes to make it again this season. Konnar Stiles has wrestled all 4 years, being an Iron Man award winner for 3 years. So far they have both had great starts to the season and hope to finish strong!
On Saturday January 10th both boys and girls had a day full of wrestling. Boys traveled to Winterset for the Gary Christensen Tournament going up against 15 different teams from all different classes. Earlham had many people who placed including Max Millage (1st), Josh Winey (3rd), Keegan Long (3rd), Colter Lenze (4th), Konner Keller (4th), Bishop Hammen (7th), Dylan Frazier (7th), and Cole Eitel (8th). The team ended up placing 7th out of 15 teams! Meanwhile the girls wrestling team traveled to Ogden going up against some tough competition. For JV Kim Doud went 3-0, placing first, and Zoe Nixt went 2-1, placing second. On varsity Lilli Stranberg went 1-2.
This week coach Strandberg also hit a huge milestone! At the home dual on Thursday he hit his 200th career dual win! Huge congrats to him!!! This week the boys wrestling team will travel to Nodaway Valley on Tuesday January 13th for a dual and on Saturday January 17th they will head to Panorama for their conference tournament! The girls will also be heading to Panorama on Saturday January 17th for their conference tournament! Good luck to everyone and keep the hard work up!
On Monday December 15th, both girls and boys varsity basketball teams defeated Interstate 35 in a conference matchup, ending in a successful night for the Cardinals. This win boosted Earlham’s momentum heading further into the season and reaffirmed the team's strong position in conference play.
In the girls game they managed to pull out a win when things weren’t necessarily going their way. The game started off slowly with both teams struggling to set the pace. When asking Kenna Harskamp about the game she said, “Things weren’t really going our way, whether that was the calls from the refs or shots not falling when we needed them to”. In the second half the girls came out strong and shots started falling. The girls defeated I-35 with a final score of 42-32.
The boys basketball team followed the girls game with an impressive performance. The boys went into the game knowing it would be a tough one, which it was. The game remained close the whole time with both teams making shots. What really helped the boys pull off this game was rebounding. The Earlham boys out rebounded I-35 by 14 which helped them pull off this win. The final score was 62-58.
Beyond the final results, the game highlighted Earlham’s ability to compete and preparation for upcoming games. The players contributed energy and effort throughout all 4 quarters, leading them to victory. In both games defense was the key factor leading them to victory.
Overall, Earlham’s sweep of I-35 demonstrated growth and the ability to execute under pressure. As the season continues, the cardinals hope to keep winning.
On Tuesday, December 16th, the Earlham Cardinals took on the West Central Valley Wildcats at home in a basketball conference meet-up. It was a very intense game for both boys and girls. The girls took the win in a tough matchup. Senior Avrie Fagan led the team to a 34-30 victory with 17 points, as well as junior Shilyn Terrell, with seven rebounds, against West Central. The Lady Cards ended the game with 20 turnovers, four steals, and 69% free throw percentage. This leaves the card 6-1 on the season so far and 4-0 in conference matchups. Next up, the boys got the win 61-51, with senior Griffin Messer leading the game with 19 points. Junior Carter Frank contributed 14 rebounds, leading the Earlham Cardinals to remain undefeated. The boys had a great game, recording 33 rebounds, 11 turnovers, and five steals. Both boys and girls take on Van Meter on Friday! After this, there will be a break in games for Christmas, so make sure you come out and support our Cardinals as they wrap up their first half of the season. The theme is Christmas out, so bring your festive attire and be loud!

Last Tuesday, the Cardinal Wrestling Team traveled to West Central Valley to take on the West Central Valley Wildcats, Panorama Panthers, and Van Meter Bulldogs in a tough quad.
After some long and challenging matches, the Cards were able to finish strong and win the quad. They defeated the Wildcats with a score of 48-27, the Panthers, 47-23, and the Bulldogs, 42-30. This year, the boys' wrestling team has dealt with some minor inconveniences. For instance, they have struggled to fill all weight classes due to early-season injuries. Although this didn’t stop the remaining gritty wrestlers. This season, freshman Colter Lenze has been on a roll, one could say, he went 3 for 3 in all of his matches. Along with sophomore Bishop Hammen, juniors Cole Eitel, Keeghan Long, and AJ Dunsky, and senior Josh Winey all went 3 for 3 that night. It was safe to say the Cards had a good night of wrestling.
The Cardinals are looking for greatness this year, and with the way they’re performing, they may just be that. With newcomers filling more of the weight classes and experienced wrestlers working back from injury, in Coach Strandberg’s words, “We’re gonna be tough to beat.”

The girls' wrestling team might be new to the mat in the past couple of years, but they are showing that they want to be on that mat. This year’s girls' wrestling team includes Sinnia Love, Kim Doud, Zoe Nixt, Lily Strandberg, and Taylor Synclair. Lily Strandberg is the only returner from last season, meaning all of the other girls are starting fresh, and they are already on fire.
Sinnia said, “I really enjoy wrestling, and our girls are amazing. I have made so many new friends. We have started out really well, coming in and not even knowing how to wrestle for most of us.” Not only is the girls' wrestling team showing how good they are on the mat, but they are also showing how positive the environment is and how easy it is to create friendships while going out for the sport.
This year’s girls' wrestling team is learning so much from their great coaches, Andrew Evans and Eric Nixt, who are helping them get started on their wrestling journey and building them up to potentially go to state. “We have a chance to make it to state, every single one of us. I mean all girl wrestlers, but our team is strong, and we have already learned so much, and we are just getting started, so we can make it to state too,” said Sinnia.
These girls are showing that girls can wrestle too, not just boys. They are showing younger girls that they can wrestle and that it is normal to go out for it as a girl. The Earlham youth program has had the most girls out ever this year, and these high school girls are giving them someone to look up to.
“The trip was fun. We learned so much, and we got to find someone to look up to and not just boy wrestlers. The experience was getting to watch women’s wrestling and seeing that they can do it, so can I. I think it gave our girls confidence that it is okay to wrestle as a girl because so many people hate on wrestling as a woman, but now it is becoming a worldwide thing, and we are going to be a part of it,” said Lily Strandberg after their great experience at the Iowa Girls Wrestling Tournament.
These girls are building not only the girls’ wrestling program but the entire wrestling program. They bring talent and hard work to the table, showing that Earlham wrestling is a talented group of not just boys, but girls as well.

The boys wrestling team traveled to Alantic Thursday, December 4th and faught hard but fell a few points short. The boys have been working hard to get a good start to the season and it showed last night. With three open weight classes and an injury that hurt the team greatly, I have no doubt the boys will be great by the time state rolls around.

The Earlham Cardinals traveled to Panorama on Tuesday night, December 9, 2025, where both the boys’ and girls’ teams faced the Panorama Panthers in a conference matchup. It was a successful night for the Cardinals, as both teams came away with wins. The girls defeated Panorama 56–31, while the boys followed with a 60–42 victory.
For the girls, senior Darby Moore led the team in scoring with 15 points, while junior Shilyn Terrell contributed six rebounds and three steals. On the boys’ side, junior Brady Reynolds paced the team with 13 points, and Carter Frank dominated the boards with 11 rebounds.
After the game, senior Mackenzie Harger shared her biggest takeaway and what she is looking forward to in the upcoming games. “Our biggest takeaway was learning that we can be both aggressive and skilled, which allows us to win tough games,” Harger said. “I’m looking forward to mastering our zone defense by making smart offensive plays and gaining experience against strong teams on our upcoming schedule.” Both teams showed strong effort throughout the night as they remained undefeated on the season.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new addition to Earlham Activities, the Earlham Dance Team! This talented group of athletes is ready to bring energized and spirited performances to halftime at the men’s home basketball games. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to interview the team’s coach, Tammy Doud. When asked what inspired her to take on this role, Doud shared, “I became the dance team coach because of my passion for dance and my desire to bring a dance team to our school.” Coach Doud brings an impressive background to the program. She was a high school cheerleader and dance team member, and continued her passion through four years on a collegiate dance team. When asked about her goals for the season, Doud said, “I have a lot of goals for this program, but first and foremost, I wanted to give the girls a chance to do something they love.” She also expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support she’s received from her team, noting how their eagerness has made her transition as coach easy and rewarding. Before wrapping up the interview, Doud made sure to highlight the members of Earlham’s dance team. These seven athletes bring strong backgrounds in studio dance and gymnastics, as well as experience performing at a high level. Representing the Earlham Dance Team’s first season are: Peyton Tiemeyer, Lila Gebhart, Maci Coon, Elery Berkley, Emma Hayes, Ava Smith, and Kinsley Canoyer.
Be sure to support when they perform!

The Earlham girls found ways to score around her and fought their hardest till the end. Unfortunately, the girls came up short in 3 sets. Although this puts an end to their postseason run, they had an amazing overall season with 20 wins!

On Friday, October 17th, the cards traveled to Lynville-Sully High School for their last regular-season game. They started slowly, down 14-0 in the first quarter, but battled back in the 2nd to put 14 points on the board, and a missed field goal by the Hawks. Finally, Lynville Sully added one more touchdown on the board with a few minutes left until halftime. The final score was 20-14 in favor of the Hawks. The game was cut short due to lightning and rain delays. Cash Eitel, a junior, had both of the cards' touchdowns, with a total of 62 yards receiving for the night. Who knows how the outcome of the game might have changed if it hadn’t been cut short, but it didn’t matter, because we still would secure the #4 playoff seed and will take on Pekin in the first round of the playoffs!
The cards have played the Ogden Bulldogs 4 times this season and will play them for the fifth time on Wednesday for Earlhams first round of regional play. The cards have won 3 out of the 4 times they have played. Come support the cards this Wednesday October 22nd at 7pm at home!!

The Cards put on an unforgettable performance last night, taking the DMC Lions to five sets for the first time in five years. The evening was especially meaningful as six seniors were celebrated for their four years of commitment to Earlham Volleyball: Savannah Charlet, Ava Harris, Kenna Harskamp, Keeley Keller, Valerie Meyer, and Allison Presler. From start to finish, the match was filled with intensity. The Cards came out strong with a 25–21 victory in the opening set, but the Lions answered back to claim the second, 25–19. Refusing to back down, the Cards persevered through the third with a 25–17 win. It all came down to a decisive 15-point set. Despite their fight, the Cards couldn’t keep pace and fell 6–15.

Although the Cards couldn’t secure the win, the night was filled with grit, hustle plays, and long rallies that kept the energy high. The Earlham volleyball team now holds the No. 3 spot in the WCAC rankings. Way to go cards!
On Friday, September 26th, the cards took on Colfax-Mingo at Earlham for the Homecoming game. It was a big win with the final score being 55-6.
