1 person from each expedition group will need to load the route onto their phone to be used for emergency location if you become lost.
Once installed you will not need your SIM card in your phone in order for it to work.
Your phone should remain turned off to preserve the battery. You should only need to turn your phone on if you are lost.
Follow the instructions below:
Download an app such as gaia GPS, maps.me or google earth to your phone
Download the correct .kmz file from the link below. If you are not sure which is the correct file check with your Award Coordinator
Open the .kmz file with your chosen app

open the app
look for the symbol at the bottom of the screen showing 2 stars and 3 lines
click on the 3 dots next to the relevant .kmz file
click 'show on map'
