We encourage you to use whatever materials you have available to practice cutting. We have already introduced how to use a cereal box to practice cutting (see Fine Motor Activities-Cereal Box). You can also use empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls to practice cutting and make a fun craft! If you have old magazines lying around, have your child practice cutting out pictures and/or shapes.
Draw straight or angled lines on the empty rolls and have your child practice cutting. Have then try to draw a face to make a fun craft!
Have your child practice cutting out pictures on magazine pages. Glue the pictures on a piece of paper to make a collage,
If you child is having difficulty cutting out squares and stopping to turn the page at the corners, add a visual cue like stars or stickers. Prompt them to cut to the star, STOP!, and turn.
