Szkoła Podstawowa nr 3 im. Adama Mickiewicza in Żywiec is situated in the suburbs of the little town in the mountains. The area is at risk of unemployment. Nowadays, there are two factories operating out of seven what means that a large amount of pupils' parents are working long hours away, leaving their children alone to fend for themselves. This can lead to psychological and emotional deficiencies. We work with students who are proceeding from various home environments and financial backgrounds. There are students from maladjusted families, educationally inefficient, separated and threatened by alcoholism. We are working with pupils from orphanages. These pupils are at risk of social exclusion because of their social status. We also teach students with special needs of reading and writing (dyslexic), ADHD problems and FASS syndrome, pupils with mental disabilities, neurological problems, partly deaf and blind, children with autism and Asperger and students with low IQ. Seven educators and one speech therapist are working in our school in order to help these children. We cooperate with Municipality sector responsible for education in our town, Psychological Outpatient Clinic, humanitarian and charity organizations, police and juvenile court. Every month we meet with parents to discuss problems or organise special training sessions for them. To make students' life better and educational process more interesting principal and teachers organize special nature lessons in new Biology and Nature Laboratory. Our main priority is to improve students' results, acquire the skills and key competences for life and value the importance of education not only at the school level, but at a European level.
