It feels a bit strange to claim that after only a few years of experience I can claim to have a teaching philosophy, but ask anyone who knows me, and they will tell you this career is what I have dreamed about my whole life. What first drew me to teaching was the feeling of support I was given by my parents to dream big because anything was possible. This is the first tenant of my teaching philosophy. I feel that as their teacher it is my job to support and encourage any and all dreams or ambitions my students may have. The second tenant is that as their teacher I must model what it means to be a student of life. We are all learning new things, adapting, and changing course if we are wrong. I believe it is my role as the teacher to both teach my students how to learn by modeling how it is done. The third tenant of my teaching philosophy is that learning should be as diverse as the learners. I believe in the UDL approach to teaching that incorporates movement into our learning routine. I believe that as an educator it is my honor and responsibility to support my students to learn to their greatest potential. I do this by standing true to my philosophy, but also realizing as a new teacher there is so much I can learn and will strive to continue to learn so that my students can have the best education possible. To accomplish this, I collaborate with my fellow teachers often, seek additional professional development opportunities as well as reflect on lessons taught. The best practice I strive to incorporate into my teaching is a reflective practice with my students. I am constantly asking them how they feel I am meeting their needs and then seeking their feedback as to what I could do to further their learning. In summary my philosophy for teaching is built upon a foundation of true passion for educating students and an understanding of the honor I have in being a small part of their lives.
