WEEKLY UPDATE
Hello,
This week, the children have continued their learning about traditions and celebrations. They loved exploring the Hindu festival of Diwali and had lots of fun creating mehndi patterns, rangoli designs, and making books about the special story 'Rama and Sita'. We also spent time learning about Remembrance Day and made some beautiful poppies to mark the occasion. Team Nidd and Team Swale were so respectful during our two minutes silence. We have also had a wonderful, fun time with our Teddies as part of our learning linked to Children in Need and what a charity is. Thank you so much for all your kind donations.
In Phonics, we will be learning some new graphemes and digraphs, as well as introducing the children to new tricky words. Thank you to everyone who has sent in pictures and videos of their children practising these at home — the children love sharing them in class! Last week, we sent home lots of tricky words that will take us up to the end of this half term. You can check our home learning information on Tapestry to see which tricky words we have introduced to the children this week.
In Maths, we will continue exploring number composition and the part–part–whole concept. This week, the children will consolidate their early understanding of ‘wholes’ and ‘parts’. Through investigating their own bodies and familiar toys, children will start to understand that whole things are made up of smaller parts. They will see that a whole is bigger than its individual parts.
At home, you can help your child understand about 'wholes' and 'parts' through these simple activities:
Complete simple jigsaw puzzles with the children. Have we got all the parts we need to complete the whole puzzle?
Encourage the children to look closely at fruit or vegetables that have been cut during meal times. Talk about how many parts each fruit could be cut into, and about what parts there are in different fruits (e.g. skin, peel, pips, seeds, juice, flesh, stalk, etc.).
Please see below information about the phonics teaching for next week. We have uploaded a copy of our phonics learning from this week to your child's Tapestry account.
Thank you for your continued support,
The EYFS Team
