Good afternoon,
This week the children enjoyed starting the week being detectives in Guided Reading! The children used different clues, including photographs, news headlines and artefacts, to try work out what our new Guided Reading text will be about. The children found the start of Walter Tull’s Scrapbook really interesting and are looking forward to reading more over the coming weeks. In English we began our new genre of writing, formal letters! The children had fun with our grammar focus of formal and informal language, practicing saying things in both ways. We also began a new History topic called ‘Is Everybody The Same?’ and a new Science topic called ‘Living Things And Their Habitats’.
Next week:
English: We will be continue writing formal letters, this time to Ebor’s CEO, Mrs Brown. Our grammar focus will be on proper nouns.
Maths: We will be using our place value knowledge to represent 3 digit numbers up to 1000 in different ways.
Creative curriculum: We will be looking at the question ‘Is it always good to travel to a new place?’ and we will be looking at what happened in the Slave Trade. Our new unit looks at periods of discrimination in History and builds towards looking at the UK as a multicultural country to see the positive progress that has been made, and thinking about what else can be improved even further to ensure everyone is free from discrimination in society.
