Good afternoon,
Team KS1 has loved beginning their exciting new topic, “What Was Life Like When Queen Victoria Ruled?” The children have enthusiastically immersed themselves in learning new vocabulary, including monarch, parliament, and rule. They have also started exploring who our current monarch is and why the monarchy remains important today.
In English, the children have been busy writing recounts about our recent trip to Boston Park Farm. They thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on the day and sharing all the wonderful activities they took part in.
Reminders next week -
In Maths, Year 1 is continuing to look at money focusing on the value of 2p,5p and 10p.
In Year 2 we will starting a new topic on fractions, focusing on equal parts, halves and quarters.
In Writing, we are going to be using drama to help us learn a new story. We are also focusing on using 'and' as a conjunction and adding 's' and 'es' to make plurals.
In Science we will be learning about different habitats and why different animals are best suited to different habitats.
In PSHE we will be sharing who can help us in our school communities and what that help can look like.
Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
REMINDERS:
This half term, our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Every Friday, Year 1 will now be bringing home a phonics home learning sheet looking at sounds that we have covered throughout the week. Any extra practise would really support your children's reading journey.
Below is a list of KS1 common exceptions words. These are a list of words that the children need to be able to read and write - although this isn't homework as such, it may be useful to practice these at home. Across Key Stage 1 we are working really hard to improve spelling and handwriting so any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team KS1
