STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 5th June 2026
Dear Families
The beginning of June is always a very busy time in school, although the children in Year 6 have completed their SATs we have lots of other assessments taking place for children in Year 1 (their phonics screening check) and Year 4 (their multiplication times table check). We are immensely proud of all of our children and their achievements and we appreciate your continued support with your child's learning.
Attendance and Term-Time Leave: A Gentle Reminder
As we approach this half term, we know it can be a popular time for families to consider planning trips or taking additional time away from school. However, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our families about the importance of regular school attendance.
Every school day counts. In line with the government’s current nationwide drive to improve school attendance, we are committed to ensuring every child maximizes their learning time. Regular attendance not only supports your child’s academic progress but also helps them maintain social connections and school routines.
Our School Policy: As a reminder, the school is unable to authorize term-time leave for family holidays or optional absences. Any requests for absence must be submitted in advance and can only be authorized under exceptional circumstances.
Thank you so much for your continued support and cooperation in helping our children achieve their full potential by ensuring they are in school every day!
With very warm wishes,
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.
Including school trips and events.
Thank you
We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a Tesco Stronger Starts Grant to support the development of our new sensory garden!
Thanks to the incredible support of our families and local community, this funding will help us create a vibrant outdoor space where children can explore, play, learn, and relax. The sensory garden will be filled with exciting features designed to engage the senses, encourage curiosity, support wellbeing, and provide opportunities for imaginative play and outdoor learning.
We know how important outdoor experiences are for children's development, and this project will create a wonderful environment for our pupils to enjoy for years to come.
A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us in store. Your support has made a real difference, and we can't wait to share our progress and see the children enjoying their new sensory garden as it comes to life!
Something very exciting is coming to Staynor Hall this half term – the very first Staynor Stars talent competition!
A few weeks ago, Miss Smith introduced the event during assembly, and you may already have spotted the posters displayed around school.
We would love to see our children showcasing their talents! Whether performing solo or as part of a group of up to five children, all acts are welcome. Singing, dancing, gymnastics, magic, comedy, playing a musical instrument, or any other special talent – if your child would like to take part, please encourage them to practise at home and take part in their class audition.
Each class will vote for a winning act, which will become their class representative. These finalists will then perform in a special parent showcase on Wednesday 1st July at 5:30pm.
The excitement will continue with the Grand Final on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd July, where the finalists will perform in front of the whole school and a panel of very special judges!
If you have any questions, please contact the Music Team via email.
We can't wait to discover the amazing talents of our Staynor Hall stars!
Thank you,
Miss Fawcett, Miss Smith, Miss Schofield and Mrs Lazenby
New Clothes Recycling Bin – Support Our School!
We’re excited to share that a new clothes recycling bin has been installed on the school grounds! This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, reduce waste, and support the school at the same time.
We encourage families to donate any unwanted clothing and shoes. Every item collected helps to raise valuable funds that go directly back into supporting school activities, resources, and opportunities for our children.
By using the recycling bin, you’re not only helping the environment by giving items a second life, but also contributing to the continued growth and success of our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support — every bag makes a difference!
What's Cooking?
This week I have been working with children from Team Calder. They have been making a Greek Salad. They have had the opportunity to learn some interesting facts about Greece and the history of the Greek Salad. They have also learnt about where their food comes from with a particular focus on Feta Cheese and Olives. Globes were used to locate the countries/continents of the ingredients used and discussions were had regarding the seasonality of certain products.
The children had the opportunity to practise their chopping/slicing/cutting skills whilst preparing their ingredients. They also showed they were competent in using digital scales and measuring spoons. They have all done an amazing job and showed such determination. Well done to you all.
I will continue working with Team Calder next week and then start working with Team Humber. In recognition of how hard they have worked this year, I have lots of exciting things lined up for them! More will be revealed next week!
I mentioned a few weeks ago about the Gardening Club we are running at After School Club. As a result of the rain and sunshine we have had recently, we are finally reaping the rewards of our efforts. The children really enjoyed pulling up some radishes and admired the lettuce. In the meantime, we will continue to water our other beds and hope to see some colourful flowers soon!

We are aware of a viral trend circulating online where children are encouraged to heat soft “squishy” toys (sometimes called NeeDoh or jelly cube toys) in a microwave.
This is extremely dangerous. When heated, these toys can burst and release hot contents, which may cause serious burns to the hands, face and skin.
What you can do:
Talk to your child about the risks of copying online challenges or trends
Remind them that not everything seen online is safe or accurate
Ensure squishy toys or similar items are never heated or microwaved
Encourage your child to come to you if they see something online that concerns them
