STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 13th June 2025
Dear Families
Staffing update
I am delighted to share some staffing updates in regards to class teachers for September.
Mrs Cowling will be joining our team as Deputy Headteacher. Mrs Cowling currently works at one of our other Ebor Academy schools and has extensive teaching experience. Mrs Cowling will be teaching in Key Stage 1.
Mrs Lazenby, Mr Myers and Miss Austwick will also be joining our teaching team. Miss Fawcett will be leaving us at the end of term for a period of time whilst she is on maternity leave.
Arbor will replace Parent Hub and Parent Pay
From September 2025, Parent Hub and Parent Pay will no longer be available as we have come to the end of the contracts. We will be replacing all functions with Arbor which can be accessed either through the mobile or tablet app or through the portal on your laptop or computer.
We have just started using Arbor for digital storage across Ebor Academy Trust and staff are finding it very user friendly. We will be using Arbor platform, alongside School Grid for meal bookings, for all our other communications, payments and bookings.
Miss Johnson and Mrs Foster in our school office have undergone training on this new Arbor platform and will be more than happy to help you with it.
You will be able to access messages and payments on Arbor from September 2025
A link to Download Arbor will be sent to all parents and carers by Parent Hub and by email.
Just a reminder that next Friday 20th June is a training day so school will be closed to the children.
Have a lovely weekend, with very best wishes
Mrs Winter
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child in school please contact myself,
Mr Metcalfe or Mrs Danbury who are the safeguarding leads.
Please can we ask that your child does not ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds.
Children are not play on the wooden trim trail before and after school.
Children are not play football on the field and playground before or after school.
As the school continues to grow the playground is getting busier and busier and it is important we keep everyone safe.
We would also like to encourage parents and children to not cross roads where visibility is reduced to ensure that roads are clear before crossing.

What's Cooking?
A small group of children from Team Foss and Team Derwent have been in Cook School this week making delicious cake pops and biscuits. They had the opportunity to use a range of cooking techniques, primarily mixing, rolling, using cutters and decorating. They all worked so hard and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience! The cake pops looked delicious and were taken home to share with their families. Well done to all of you!
I also welcomed Team Humber back to Cook School. They have enjoyed making Victoria Sponge which they will share with some visitors from another school in a couple of weeks. The children were able to use a range of cooking techniques, including measuring, weighing, mixing, beating, baking and had the opportunity to sample a cupcake at the end of the lesson.
Whilst working in Cook School, they learnt about the origin of the Victoria Sponge and chatted about what foods were available back in Victorian times. They also learnt about seasonality and where some of our ingredients may have come from. All of the children worked really hard and I know their cakes are going to be amazing when we share them with our visitors.
I will continue to work with the rest of Team Humber next week.

Dear parents and carers,
North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership would like to share information about a TikTok trend that has occurred recently in a small number of schools across North and West Yorkshire. The trend involves children deliberately restricting each other's breathing or applying pressure to the chest until they pass out. This is then recorded and added to social media. This can have significant health implications for the children involved.
The dangerous online challenge has existed before and has previously been known as “the blackout challenge” “speed dreaming”, although there is recent intel that this has been referenced as the “tap out challenge” Please note when these, or similar searches are completed a TikTok the search is blocked and online safety messages in relation to online challenges are shared.
TikTok has released information with regards to safety and online challenges, which can be accessed here: https://www.tiktok.com/safety/en/online-challenges
Please note that due to safety restrictions on TikTok, children may also be sharing through other platforms.
As a partnership, we want to make school partners aware of the trend but are conscious that this has only been reported in a very small number of areas and are mindful not to inadvertently draw further attention to it and further fuel the trend.
As always, we encourage the use of open conversation with young people about their online lives and what they are seeing and hearing. Further resources to support this can be accessed here: Online safety: expert insight videos | NSPCC Learning
Resources for parents can be accessed here: Online challenges - advice for parents - UK Safer Internet Centre
If any schools hear any information in relation to the trend, we encourage intelligence to be shared via the partnership intelligence sharing online portal, which can be accessed here Share Community Partnership Intelligence | North Yorkshire Police (A further guide for the submission of intelligence is available here NYSCP)
Warm regards
Mr Metcalfe
