Good afternoon,
The teams loved starting our new topic called ‘Who were the Mayans?’ this week and learnt where the Mayans fit into our periods of history. In English, we wrote our first paragraphs of our narratives and used inverted commas to show direct speech. They used some fantastic descriptive and imaginative language to describe what it would be like to walk through a jungle. We also started our new Electricity unit in Science and enjoyed grouping together electrical and non-electrical items.
Creative Curriculum - We will be looking at the question ‘Where did the Maya live?’.
English - We are continuing our narrative writing, focusing on coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
Maths Year 3 - We will be starting work on unit fractions using fractional notation and identifying parts and wholes in different contexts
Maths Year 4 - We are identifying equal parts when they do not look the same, explaining the size of the part in relation to the whole and constructing a whole when given a part and the number of parts.
PE Year 3- This week York Knights are coming in for PE on Wednesday. Please can Year 3 come in PE kits on Wednesday and Friday.
PE Year 4 - Year 4 have PE on Tuesday and Friday and need to come in their PE kits on these days.
PSHE Year 3 - This week we are continuing our topic ‘Relationships’. We are looking to know the difference between secrets and surprises and understand not to keep adult secrets both on and offline and when to support a friend to tell a trusted adult. We are also going to know and judge what kind of physical contact is acceptable or unacceptable and how to respond -including who I should tell and how to tell them.
PSHE Year 4 - We are continuing our topic ‘Relationships’. This week our focus is knowing about physical boundaries, how to say no to unwanted touch and to know how to gain consent for appropriate touch.
As it is half term, there is no homework set this week. We hope you all have a wonderful week!
