WEEKLY UPDATE
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s been another fantastic week in Reception, and we are so proud of how much the children are learning and growing! Their enthusiasm for phonics continues to impress us. Thank you for your ongoing support with their home learning. Practising the phonics sounds at home really helps reinforce what we’re doing in class and makes a huge difference to the children’s progress.
Next week, we’ll begin introducing 'tricky words' to our learning. These are words that don’t always follow the usual phonetic rules, and we will be focusing on the word ‘is’ next week.
Next week, we will have our first group reading sessions. Additional adults will be joining us in the classroom to work with small groups of children, helping them practise their reading skills three times a week.
We are excited to begin our PE lessons next week! PE will take place every Wednesday, so please remember to send your child in their full PE kit every Wednesday.
A few important reminders:
No jewelry: Please ensure your child is not wearing any jewelry on PE days.
Earrings: If your child wears earrings and cannot remove them, kindly make sure they arrive with tape on them to cover the earrings for safety during the session.
We’ve also attached an overview of the graphemes (letters) and phonemes (sounds) we’ll be focusing on from Monday 22nd September. This will help you know what we’ll be learning each week and give you a chance to reinforce these concepts at home. You can also find a copy of the home learning uploaded to your child’s Tapestry account every week.
If you haven’t already, we highly recommend checking out the “For Parents” section on the Little Wandle website. This area is full of helpful resources, including videos and downloadable guides that will help you feel confident in supporting your child’s reading at home. Some resources to explore include:
Termly Guides: These show how sounds are taught throughout the year (e.g., Reception Autumn 1, Autumn 2, etc.).
Videos: Find clear explanations of how phonics lessons are delivered, and tips on how to teach blending and tricky words.
We hope these resources will be valuable to you as you support your child’s learning journey!
Home Learning:
Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for all your continued support.
Warm regards,
Team Reception
