After one year, I came back to Ebenezer to be a volunteer for the graduation ceremony of Ebenezer Early Intervention Program for Visually Impaired Children (EIP). I thought of the days when I worked at EIP. I was so happy to see new faces and their smiles at the center of EIP. I still remember those of the days when I first met most of the parents in the center that they felt very sad and miserable. Provided by EIP with intensive training and many efforts for both children and parents, I could see the parents’ facial expressions changing from sadness to full of hope day by day. I believe that EIP could keep its spirit to light up the path and hope for the families with visually impaired children. Keep fighting!
I’m also a mother of a visually imparied child and I think every single visually impaired child is unique. As a parent volunteer, I’m so touched, being understood and also distressed to share the perosnal experiences with other parents. Even though I was unfamiliar with the current EIP parents, I enjoyed the interactions with them in the parent mutual support group. With my truely blessings to the parents, I hope I can pay much more efforts to work for them.
For the past three years of volunteer work in EIP, I mainly focus on clerical work in office. I’m very impressed and happy to be a volunteer at St. Andrew Church from March to August 2018 to assist the training for the visually impaired pre-school children. It was so amazing to see their progress that there was no responses from them at the very beginning but they could recognize me, be responsive and smile to me when I called their names and also play interactive games when they graduated. I felt so touched and happy when I saw such progress in the end. Most importantly, I think their parents should be honoured for their persistant and determined attitudes for teaching their children in order to see the gradual improvement for them.
