Course Description:
I’d like to welcome you and your child to Digital Communications Class. This is a semester long (18 week) course with a mixture of 7th and 8th grade students. This course will explore facets of communicating with various types of digital media. We will explore graphic design, photography, photo editing, videography, video editing, website design and digital coding.
Microsoft Publisher, Windows Movie Maker, and Photoscape will be used, as well as various other online software programs. The goal of this course is to get an in-depth and hands on understanding of communicating in a digital world. During the semester students will create a portfolio of work demonstrating their understanding of the course. A pre-test will also be given at the beginning of the quarter to allow for more concise lesson planning. This pre-test will only count as a participation grade.
The students will be completing in class projects (group and individual), homework, and test/quizzes. Rubrics, assignment due dates, test dates, and description of each project and assignment will be posted on our google classroom site.

Due to the nature of the class, students will be handling technology equipment on a very regular basis. Prior to this students must have an Acceptable Use Policy on file with the school; these will be distributed through their homeroom.
Absences and Late Work:
Students will have 5 days to make up any late work, including tests. I will not be flexible on this, all assignments, tests, and project dates are clearly laid out for the entire quarter, and it is the student’s responsibility to stay accountable for their work. This is the School Policy.
Tardies:
Students have 5 minutes between every class to switch classes. When a student enters my classroom once the bell sounds they will be marked Tardy in the Powerschool system.
Grading Scale:
Classwork: 30%
Projects: 35%
Tests: 30%
Participation: 5%
All grading will be done using Powerschool.
