I’d like to welcome you and your child to Computer Skills Class. Your child will receive a review of the keyboarding and word processing skills they started in Elementary School; but this is not the main focus. The overall goal for this class is to provide a foundation where students can use technology for a variety of tasks that can be applied to every aspect of their education. The Chapters we will be covering are:

  • Keyboarding Techniques

  • Computer Safety

  • Word Processing (Microsoft Word and Google Docs)

  • Computer Basics/Programming

  • Spreadsheet Creation (Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets)

  • Computer Ethics

  • Copyright and Fair Use

  • Presentations (Powerpoint and Google Slides)

  • Other Special Projects

Study guides will be assigned for each chapter along with a project or activity. I will provide class time for all projects; students should be able to complete all projects in class. I believe that project and application based learning allows the students to grasp the concepts and programs more easily and more efficiently. In addition to this, students will also have Tests and Quizzes throughout the quarter. The students will be completing in class projects (group and individual), homework, and test/quizzes. Rubrics, assignment due dates, test dates, and description of each project and assignment will be posted on our interactive google classroom site.

CLASS POLICY:

Equipment in Class:

Due to the nature of the class, students will be handling technology equipment on a very regular basis. Prior to this students must have an Acceptable Use Policy on file with the school; these will be distributed through their homeroom.

Absences and Late Work:

Students will have 5 days to make up any late work, including tests. I will not be flexible on this, all assignments, tests, and project dates are clearly laid out for the entire quarter, and it is the student’s responsibility to stay accountable for their work. This is the School Policy.

Tardies:

Students have 5 minutes between every class to switch classes. When a student enters my classroom once the bell sounds they will be marked Tardy in the Powerschool system.

Grading Scale:

Classwork: 30%

Projects: 35%

Tests: 30%

Participation: 5%

All grading will be done using Powerschool.
