Chorus Information

Fifth Grade Chorus

In the East Penn School District, all fifth grade students participate in chorus as part of the music curriculum. In chorus, students have the opportunity to develop their vocal skills and music-reading abilities. Participation in chorus teaches students how to follow a conductor, how to work together towards a common musical goal, and prepares students for the numerous vocal groups they will have the opportunity to join in middle school and high school. Participation in chorus also gives students the opportunity to audition for solos and acting roles. Students prepare musical selections for two concerts - one in the winter and one in the spring.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do students get graded for chorus?

Chorus is a required part of the fifth grade music curriculum. Grading for chorus is incorporated into the general music grade and is dependent upon participation and effort.

Are there any rehearsals after school?

There are no required after school rehearsals for most students. Depending on the music, I may call a few students in after school for an extra rehearsal to practice solos, dances, skits, etc. Information about these rehearsals will be sent home far in advance so that families can plan for these rehearsals. Every so often I may also use lunch time to squeeze in an extra rehearsal with those individuals.

What should my child wear to the concert? What time does my child need to be at school for the concert? etc.

Information will be sent home with students that clearly explains how they need to be dressed, what time they need to be at school, where they need to report to, etc. Please check OFTEN with your students to see if they have been given any reminder slips from me, and of course...check back often on this site for updates!
