Language Arts

Welcome to Language Arts with Mrs. Knecht!

Please check back regularly for updates.

About Me:

I am a graduate of Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA and also of the Graduate Program at Wilkes University.  This is my thirteenth year teaching in the East Penn School District.  I taught for 2 years at LMMS; both in Language Arts and Communications.  I joined the wonderful Eyer family in January 2011.  It is always an awesome experience getting to know a new group of students, and I am very excited about this year!

Personally, I am married to my husband, Hunter, and we have two children, Karter who is 7 and a half and starting 2nd grade, and Adalyn who is 11 and entering 6th grade.  We also have a Cockapoo named Jetson and a crazy 4 month old mini-bernedoodle, Twyla.  We are a camping family and try to take vacations where we can travel with our home on wheels.  My favorite color is green, and some of my hobbies include hand-lettering, reading, writing, watching Gilmore Girls and HGTV, decorating, and trying Pinterest projects.

My goals for this year include being fair to, and respectful of, each student and his or her family.  I also want students to leave my classroom in June feeling ready for 7th grade academically, mentally, and emotionally.  Constant contact and interaction with my students and their families are among the most important things I can do as an educator.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or comments.  I also encourage every student and parent to stay informed with what’s going on in our classroom.  Students are encouraged check Schoology on a daily basis to keep track of assignments and topics covered in class that day, most especially on days that they are absent.

Some Topics That Will Be Covered This Year Include:

Students will be evaluated through quizzes, projects, short assignments, essays, etc., and evaluations will be based on the PA Common Core Academic Standards for ELA.

Helpful Resources:

Classroom Policies and Procedures:

Latework:

Work is considered late if it is turned in at any point after it has been collected. Graded assignments will be entered into the grade book as "I" if assignments are not submitted before grades are entered. After 2 - 6 day cycles, the "Incomplete" will be changed to a "0" in the grade book.

Plagiarism:

Any student who is caught plagiarizing work, meaning it is not their original work (either copied from a book, the internet, or another student), will be given a zero for that assignment. IMPORTANT NOTE: Any student who has given their work to another student to be copied will also be given a zero for that assignment.  Students will then be given an alternative assignment to complete for the grade. The Eyer student handbook also calls for a write-up and one day of in-school suspension for any plagiarism issue.

If You Are Absent:

Please check Schoology for any work you missed while you were out.  Students should do any work that they are able to do during their absence, before returning to school.  Upon returning, students are responsible for going to see their teachers during AM homeroom to check what they missed and get any additional information. Parents are encouraged to call the guidance office and request work if a student will be absent three or more days.  If a student is going to miss school because of a trip, the student must request work and complete a trip form before leaving.

Retesting and Revising:

Any students who earns a D or F on an assessment is required to reassess the skills for that assessment.  Students are responsible for scheduling reassessments. In order to reassess, students must have completed all homework assignments leading up to the assessment. If all assignments were not completed, the work must be made up prior to the reassessment. Students will be required to either receive re-teaching of the material, make test corrections, or complete remediation material prior to reassessing. Reassessments must be taken within 5 school days from the receiving the score on the original assessment. Students will receive the higher grade earned on either the original assessment or the reassessment. Reassessments will cover the same material, but the questions may be reworded, or the order may be changed. A note will be made in the online grade book that a reassessment was taken.
