In 1923, Karl Gehrkens coined the phrase, “Music for every child, every child for music.” I believe this quote most adequately describes my outlook when designing my program and daily lessons. It is my goal that Wescosville and Alburtis students will leave every music class feeling both supported and challenged at their unique musical ability level.
I hold a Master's Degree in Kodály Music Education, and am currently training in the Music Will approach to music learning. Both methods prioritize empowering students through active music-making, and removing any and all barriers to success, regardless of a student's individual ability level. To learn more, please visit https://www.oake.org/ and https://musicwill.org/our-program/
During music lessons designed with a blend of these two approaches, students will develop skills in the following areas:
Audiation (the ability to "think" musically)
Literacy- Rhythm
Literacy- Melody
Harmony
Movement/Dance (responding to music with the body)
Instruments
Classification (identifying different forms of music)
Performance
Expression
Listening (hearing music, responding to various elements, and becoming an educated consumer of music)
Singing Games (one of the best ways I know to create community!)
Composition (creating music of their own)
