Homework is to practice and improve what students are learning in school. In second grade, I want the students to focus on being better readers and mathematicians. Homework needs to support this goal. A homework sheet will go home on Mondays and should be returned to the teacher on Fridays with parent initials each completed day.
Every night during the school week students will:
1. Read for 15 minutes- this can be silently with a book at their reading level, aloud with a family member or friend, or as a listener with a family member or friend.
2. Practice addition and subtraction facts for 5 minutes- the more you practice the better you'll be. High fluency of addition and subtraction facts will help each student being stronger math thinkers. Flash cards or online practice can be used.
3. Read over the Fundations words/trick words for that particular week
Sometimes your child may have homework specific to their needs.
Please let your teacher know if you have any questions about how to best support your child with their homework.
