I’m a dedicated Reading Interventionist at Emmaus High School, bringing 18 years of experience in education to my work with 6th-12th grade students. My passion lies in strengthening literacy and writing skills, equipping students with the tools they need for success.
In addition to my role as a Reading Interventionist, I serve as a Keys to Literacy Coach at the high school, supporting fellow educators in implementing research-based literacy strategies. I am well-versed in programs such as Lexia, REWARDS, and Orton Gillingham. I am always seeking new ways to refine my practice.
I am a proud graduate of Bloomsburg University and Alvernia University. I am currently continuing my scholarship at Kutztown University to further enhance my expertise in literacy instruction.

Reading Seminar REWARDS Science/Social Studies

In this course, students will explore Key Skills in REWARDS Science & Social Studies
Decoding Multisyllabic Words – Teaching students strategies to break down and decode longer words commonly found in science and social studies texts.
Morphological Awareness – Emphasizing prefixes, suffixes, and roots to help students understand word meanings in context.
Fluency – Improving reading rate and accuracy to support comprehension.
Vocabulary Development – Expanding academic vocabulary relevant to science and social studies.
Comprehension Strategies – Teaching students to identify main ideas, summarize information, and draw inferences from complex texts.
Sentence Structure & Syntax – Helping students understand how sentences are structured in academic writing.
Critical Thinking – Encouraging students to analyze, compare, and contrast information in science and social studies contexts.
In this course, students will learn Students will respond to literary works orally through inquiry-based class discussion, peer to peer discussion, and more formal presentation activities. Additionally, students will respond to literature in writing on a regular basis, which may take the form of homework, journaling, and informal and formal essays. Through the workshop model, students will explore the elements of brainstorming, outlining, writing, peer editing, revising and proofreading, and publishing their work. Research and analysis will emphasize increasing independence as students reinforce skills such as writing a thesis, finding and evaluating secondary sources, and synthesizing primary and secondary source information. Besides teacher selected titles, the study of literature will be augmented with student selections during independent reading time and Literature Circles.

Supplies: We will have some available in the classroom for all students to use like our folders and reading seminar materials. We also have highlighters, lined paper, and other materials to use.
