* Everyone can learn math to the highest levels * Mistakes are valuable, make them * Questions are important - Don't be afraid to ask them * Math is about being creative and making sense of what you are doing * Math is about making connections and communicating with others * How well you know the material is more important than how fast you are * Math class is about learning, not performing*
In 6th grade, students will have an exciting opportunity to explore the following units with the Ready Mathematics curriculum:

Ratio Reasoning
(Ratio Concepts and Equivalent Ratios)
Ratio Reasoning
(Unit Rates and Percent)
Algebraic Thinking
(Equivalent Expressions and Equations with Variables)
Positive and Negative Numbers
(Absolute Value, Inequalities, and the Coordinate Plane)
Statistical Thinking
(Data Distributions and Measures of Center and Variability)
An exciting program students will use is i-Ready. i-Ready is an interactive online learning program that will help students build essential skills in mathematics. After taking a diagnostic test, i-Ready provides each student with a personalized instruction plan based on his/her results. The personalized plans will target skill gaps to help students who are behind access grade-level content and provide challenge and enrichment for students who are ready.
Students will be constantly reviewing learned concepts by completing a weekly assignment called "Sharpening Our Skills" (SOS). This assignment will help reinforce skills previously learned in the classroom. Students are encouraged to use their resources to help them complete this assignment.
Instead of offering retests, all students have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes by completing an "Assessment Corrections Sheet." By resolving problems and explaining why the answer is correct compared to the original answer, students will gain a better understanding of the concepts. Students can earn back partial credit by making the necessary corrections.
Little Dougie is Mr. Scholl's classroom troll! He is not known for his math skills, as he struggles with math and usually gets blamed for wrong answers found on the board. This doesn't stop him from showing up every day with a smile on his face. No matter how many mistakes he makes, he keeps on trying.
Little Dougie loves to travel with Mr. Scholl. He's been to many places like Hershey Park, Penn State, Ocean City, Canada, and New York City. He would love to go with you on your next trip! You can follow little Dougie's adventures on Instagram @littledougietroll!
