Reading

Welcome!

Mrs. Busteed

6th Grade Reading

Our goal this school year is to learn more about ourselves as readers and gain the skills necessary to become effective academic communicators with peers. During Reading Workshop, mini-lessons will be given in the first part of the class and the bulk of students' time will focus on their reading. That is why it is so important that each student has an independent reading book with them at all times. An IR book is one that the child has chosen based on their interests, reading comfort, and/or favorite author. It is required that all students read this book each night as homework. This routine will be build stamina and vocabulary as well as comprehension skills. My hope is that all students will develop a sense of ownership for their learning and gain a better understanding of the world around them and ultimately themselves.
