PROCEDURES FOR DISPENSING OF MEDICATION
Procedures for administration of medication in school can be viewed on the EPSD Health Services Page. Certain stock medications (ex. Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, hydrocortisone cream) may be given at EHS once parents give electronic permission in their child’s Snap Health Portal, this permission must be renewed each school year. Any other medications shall only be administered with completed and signed medication orders.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
Please review the EPSD Health Services page for specific information regarding return to school after illness. Following any illness, students should be fever free and able to eat without vomiting for 24 hours, without the use of medication, prior to returning to school.
IMMUNIZATION
The State of Pennsylvania and EPSD requires certain immunizations, or a valid exemption, in order for students to attend school. A second dose of Meningococcal ACWY must be given on or after the 16th birthday prior to 12th grade, otherwise students may be excluded from school.
PROCEDURES IN SCHOOL HEALTH ROOM
The East Penn School District has a set of Standing Orders from the Chief School Physician directing treatment of students who visit the health room. A copy of these Standing Orders is available in each school’s health room.
NOTE: Personal/Medical Virtual Appointments are not permitted to take place within the building during the school day. Should your child have one scheduled, the student must follow our typical protocol of signing out with a parent to attend the appointment. The student can return to school once the appointment is over with a parent or doctor's note.
AFTER-SCHOOL/OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL MEDICAL NEEDS
Nurses are in the school building during regular school hours. If a student experiences a medical emergency outside of school hours during a school event, whether on or off of school grounds, 911 will be called.
