Our preschool teacher-friends play a big part in preparing our students for Kindergarten and school in general. They introduce our students to songs and play. They are instrumental in teaching rules and expectations. We are grateful for their preparation and involvement!
Our Supervisor of K-5 Education Technology, Anne McEntire, presented some fun tech tools and ideas to local preschool teachers in January, 2021. Check out the presentation here!

A QR code is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode). QR stands for QUICK RESPONSE. For young students, a QR code is a quick and easy way to get them access to a link!
How does it work?
iPads and other mobile devices have cameras that can scan the code and offer you a quick link. Here’s an example of one… I could tell kids to go to www.eastonsd.org, click Departments, click Technology, click K-5 iPad program and click TEMPLATES. That would be five clicks and they would need to be able to read to access it. OR I could just give them this code, left, to scan with their camera. Instant access to the webpage!
Make your own QR code for any link: https://www.qr-code-generator.com/

Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Teachers can empower students to create, reflect, share, and collaborate. Students “show what they know” using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. Seesaw works on a variety of devices including laptops, iPads, Androids, Chromebooks, and Kindle Fire.
Possibilities are limitless…
The best part of Seesaw is that you can make it work the way you want it to work. I’ll be showing you how it can work on an iPad but it should be very similar on any of the devices mentioned to the left. The free version of Seesaw is PERFECT for pre-K!

Starfall is a children's website that teaches basic English reading and writing skills. The main demographic is preschoolers, and kindergarteners. It teaches children how to read by using games and phonics.
How does it work?
If you use a laptop, some of the offerings are free to use at www.starfall.com. You could easily project the lessons to share with kids or if kids have a laptop to use they could do some of it themselves. It’s also a great idea to recommend to parents to use at home.
Visit www.starfall.com to check out some of their free games and books!

Remove bg is just a website, very simple to use, that will remove backgrounds from photos.
How does it work?
If you want to “put” students in a place to make them understand a little better what you’re teaching them, you can use this fun website! Visit this link: www.remove.bg/t/change-background and simply upload a photo. Click REMOVE BACKGROUND and once that is removed you can choose one of their built in backgrounds or upload your own!
This is so fun, especially for preschoolers! It’s augmented reality… which means that it uses your setting and places the hungry caterpillar in it. While on your desk (or floor, table, etc) he'll play with items from the trunk, eat the fruit from the storybook, and more!
In the example to the left, he’s crawling around on my desk in my office. You can tap things to see what else happens… like tap the box to see what’s inside. The caterpillar will eat his way through the fruit, too 🍎🍐
You can download My Very Hungry Caterpillar AR from the App Store or Google Play Store.
