To ensure academic success and maintain compliance with state educational standards, students are required to demonstrate active participation in their digital coursework. Attendance in our cyber program is measured by two primary metrics: Active Instructional Time and Synchronous Interaction.
To be marked "Present" for a school day, a student must fulfill the following two mandates:
Edgenuity Engagement: Students must accumulate a minimum of one (1) hour of active work within the Edgenuity platform per school day working in a core class (for our purposes a core class will include English, History, Math, Science, PE, Health, and Spanish classes).
Note: System idle time (leaving the browser open without progress) does not count toward this requirement. Additionally, time spent working in electives offered in Schoology will not count towards this time.
Teacher Check-In: Students must complete one (1) video check-in with a cyber teacher per week. This ensures students remain connected to their support system and allows for real-time academic troubleshooting. Failure to meet this check-in requirement for a total of 6 meetings per quarter may result in a return to in-person instruction.
Note: During this check-in, the student must have the video turned on and their face visible on the screen.
Attendance is tracked digitally and verified daily by the administration:
Time Logs: Edgenuity’s internal reporting tools serve as the official record for active instructional minutes.
Check-in Logs: Weekly check-ins completed on Monday-Friday will be tracked by the cyber teachers. Failure to make the weekly check-in will result in an absence on Friday.
Standard school Procedure applies to excused absences (e.g., illness, medical appointments, or technical outages). The Assistant Principal’s office must receive parental notification (phone call, written note, or email) regarding the reason for the absence no later than 72 hours following the student’s return to school, or it will be recorded as an illegal absence.
Safe Arrival: If you know your student will be unable to log on in advance or the day of an absence, please attempt to use SafeArrival. Use the toll-free number (1-855-816-2679), website (https://go.schoolmessenger.com/#/account/login), or School Messenger mobile app to report your child's absence, late arrival, or early dismissal in advance.
EAMS: Excuses for absences not reported the day of can be sent to Joyce Arrizza: arrizzaj@eastonsd.org
Assistant Principal’s Office: Excuses for absences not reported the day of can be sent to the following assistant principal offices:
Last names A-Dau: Ms. McCutcheon: mccutcheonm@eastonsd.org
Last names Dav-He: Ms. Curto: curtoa@eastonsd.org
Last names Hi-Mol: Ms. Garcia: garciaj@eastonsd.org
Last names Mon-Sce: Ms. Smith: smithj1@eastonsd.org
Last names Sch-Z: Ms. Frank: frankk@eastonsd.org
Consistent engagement is critical for credit recovery and graduation. The following steps will be taken for unexcused absences:
3 Unexcused Absences: Automated notification sent to parents/guardians.
6 Unexcused Absences: Automated notification sent to parents/guardians and a mandatory "Success Plan" meeting will be scheduled between the student, parent, and teacher to discuss barriers to engagement.
10 Unexcused Absences: (Joyce will check on this- but there is a letter here or at 15)
15 Unexcused Absences:
Additional Unexcused Absences after the Success Plan Meeting: Formal truancy proceedings may begin in accordance with local regulations.
Pro-Tip for Students: You don’t have to do your hour all at once! You can split your Edgenuity time into two 30-minute sessions, as long as you hit that 60-minute total before the end of the day.
Academic Integrity
At Easton Cyber Academy, academic integrity is important to maintaining a meaningful learning environment. Students are expected to complete all assignments, assessments, and projects honestly and independently.
Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:
Copying and submitting work that is not your own as your work
Allowing someone else or another program to complete the coursework for you
Submitting work generated fully or partially by AI tools without teacher permission
Falsifying data or sources in graded work
Plagiarism, which includes using someone else’s words or ideas without proper citation
Academic Integrity Violations may result in disciplinary consequences, including but not limited to:
First Offense: The student may redo the assignment for credit based on teacher discretion
Subsequent Violations: The student will earn a zero for the assignment with no opportunity to make it up, and the administration may request a conference with the parent and counselor
