Our Elementary Band is made up of 5th-6th grade students at Berlin, Walnut Creek, and Winesburg Elementary.
These students for 45 minutes, twice a week, and perform in two concerts during the school year.
BANDleship is the fun way to practice and be rewarded for doing so. Every month, a new game begins...
At the end of each month, students partner up and play a game of BANDleship with each other. The grid is a traditional 10x10 battleship grid with 5 differently-sized ships randomly hidden.
Students are encouraged to practice daily for 15 minutes or more. Each day in the month that they achieve this earns them 2 guesses.
For each week that students practice 3 days out of the week (15+ minutes each), they will earn an additional 5 guesses.
The Habits of a Successful Beginner Band Musician method is one part of a larger collective referred to as the "HABITS Series". This method is gaining traction across the country because it teaches students what they need to know in a simplified way. Each page is clean, organized, and sequenced properly, unlike many methods that put too much unnecessary information on each page. As I previewed the book, I also loved seeing the speed at which students will be introduced to new time signatures, key signatures, and accidentals. This will lay an early, strong foundation for them as they soon transition to middle school level music.
Students, you'll enjoy the fun music it has for you to play! This book doesn't just include "exercises". It includes MUSIC. In fact, there's over 190 passages of music for you to explore.
Lastly, this method comes with FREE ONLINE RESOURCES for students to practice with. Every passage of music has a video of a professional musician playing the passage. Students can listen to what it sounds like, or play along! Questions about how to clean your instrument? There are videos for that as well.
I'm very excited about this transition, and I know that you will be too. You can pick up a copy of this book from the HABITS website, or call/order online through Pellegrino Music Center.
