New this year we will be using the Fish tank Learning for Reading , Writing, and Grammar. Students will be exploring different types of text to develop a deeper understanding of the ELA standards. Students will be reading the novel Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, books on Natural Disasters, stories about Greek Mythology, The Wild Book, as well as the book For Which We Stand: How Our Government Works and Why It Matters. Students will work on process-based writing projects that are connected to the texts, that will help to develop their narrative, informational and opinion writing skills. Throughout these units students will be identifying and utilizing grammar in context and applying it to their writing.
WORD STUDY:
New this year we will be following an instructional model which focuses on students learning spelling patterns which are aligned with the NJSLS. Students will be assessed using a skill-specific mastery assessment, consisting of 15 words that follow the weekly pattern.
MATH:
We utilize both the the Ready Classroom as well as the online components of IReady, which consists of their mypath which is dedicated specifically to each students needs, assignments which are assigned by the teacher that directly correlate to the lesson, as well as access to the textbook. Students will utilize fluency flight through IReady where they will practice math facts each day. Students will also have math groups where they will, work with the teacher, work independently to practice skills, math fact practice, as well as skill work on the computer.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will study through our Young Citizens program.

SCIENCE:
Our science curriculum comes from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This is a very hands-on, experiment-driven, and project-based learning approach.
