Every classroom at Eastern Howard is outfitted with a 75 inch interactive Promethean display. These displays offer a variety of functionality that were not previously available with our old systems. Check out the video below to learn a little more about the capabilities of these boards.
One of the biggest changes you will notice with the new boards is that they are not mounted on your walls. Each board is wireless (except for the power to the board) and can be placed anywhere in your room. When you want to rearrange your room, the board can be moved around. If you should change rooms at anypoint, the board stays in the original room (Don't worry, there will be a board in the new room you move to). Wall panel controls will remain along with speakers in the ceiling for those times that you want to play audio independently of your board.
75 inch multi-touch display
Built-in speakers for deep sound
Multiple inputs for a personal dvd player or a usb stick with files on it
Integrated motion sensors so the board is ready when you are
Built-in screen sharing and Airplay
You likely noticed in the video that the board was being used all by itself. Our previous boards were simply displays; These new boards have some storage and an operating system built in. This means you can still work on your laptop and display things on the board at the same time. If you prefer to connect your Mac and work from your computer to the board, you can jump to the next section which mimics the way our old boards used to work...all completely wireless though.
There are so many tools built-in directly to the board. It may be slightly overwhelming at first. With time and practice you will master all of the tools you need for everyday work. Some of the tools are listed below and a short video follows to introduce you to your new Promethean board.
Whiteboard mode - This mode gives you an unlimited whiteboard that you can take notes in. Pinch and zoom to move around your infinite canvas. Enjoy annotation tools, math tools, concept maps and more.
Annotation mode - This mode gives you a digital "transparency" over anything displayed on the screen. Pull up a web page and mark it up on the fly. Open a video and pause, then take notes on top of it.
Built-in Airplay - No longer do you need to use Airserver running on your Mac while mirroring to share a student iPad screen. Devices can attempt to connect to your board and are placed in a waiting room for you to allow them to be displayed.
Easy capture - You can click one button the the board to instantly capture a screenshot of anything on your board and mark it up in the whiteboard app.
Individual users - You can add yourself and add a guest so even when you are gone the board can be used. Your account is locked by a passcode or password.
Built-in connection to Google - Your files follow you to the board when you keep them in Google. You can link your Google account for easy access to anything you saved to the cloud from your computer.
A locker - The locker has quick access to all sorts of other apps that can be pushed to the board to do all sorts of fantastic things.
