What is Parents as Teachers?

Parents as Teachers or PAT is a comprehensive parent education program for families with children ages birth to age five. Through home visits, playgroups, parent education groups, developmental screening and a resource and referral service, the FRC offers parents the opportunity to learn effective parenting skills and build a support network. Here are the various services we offer:

Personal Visits

PAT certified educators, trained in Child Development and home visiting, meet with each family privately in their home or in our center. The parent educator helps parents understand each stage of their child's development, offer practical tips on ways to encourage learning and promote strong parent-child relationships.

Group Connections

Group Connections offer opportunities for parents and children to come together to participate in a variety of hands-on learning activities and connect with other families, or for parents come to receive information from speakers on a variety of topics. Group Connections vary and all families are welcome to attend!

Screenings

Developmental screenings offer parents a quick and effective way to look at how your child is learning and growing in the areas of health, vision, hearing, communication, physical development, problem solving and social/emotional development. When you are receiving visits with a parent educator, your screenings will occur in your home. If you are interested in screenings but not participating in home visits, we can do screenings in our playgroup room.
