NEW TO BAND

Dear future Wildcat Band Member and family, 

Congratulations on a successful 5th grade year!! We’re excited to meet you! 

If you are interested in joining the WRMS Wildcat Band, please follow these steps:

STEP 1:

Attend Informational Meeting: Monday, February 23, 2026 at 7:00PM in the Westlake HS Band Hall. This meeting for 5th grade students AND parents will provide information about beginning band in the Eanes school district. Information about specific instruments offered, instrument placements, cost, and instrument selection sign-ups will be provided.

Westlake High School is located at 4100 Westbank Drive. The Westlake Band Hall is located down the exterior ramp on the back side of the Performing Arts Center. Please park in the PAC parking lot and then walk down the sidewalk along Westbank Drive and follow the signs. 

STEP 2: 

Instrument selection day will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026 by appointment.  You and your child will come to the Westlake HS Band Hall at the assigned time with three instrument choices in mind.  Your child will have the opportunity to try each of these three instruments in the presence of a band director, in order to determine the instrument choice that is best for them.  At this event there will also be information concerning instrument rental or purchase.

If you absolutely cannot make the March 7th event, please sign up for a make up appointment on April 7, 8, 13, or 14th. 

NEXT STEPS

I tried the instruments... What do I do now?

Once we have met with every 5th grader, you will be notified of your instrument choice by email and at your elementary school. We expect to be ready to share this with you by May 1st. 

When you are notified of your instrument choice...

We will have everything ready for you to rent/purchase from our local music store. You can take care of securing your instrument and supplies in person on May 5th (see below) or by visiting Strait Music in person or online. All information will be provided with your instrument choice email.

Once you know what you are playing next year, join us for an Instrument Rental Night, where you can lock-in your instrument rental and supply purchases with representatives from Strait Music. Band directors will also be available to answer any questions!
