Teacher Innovation Academy

Our Mission

The Teacher Innovation Academy (TIA) is an interdisciplinary team of WHS educators that meets throughout the year to connect, lead, collaborate, and grow. Together, the team works to amplify the impact of authentic learning and teaching within the community by sharing best practices, reflecting on their work, and innovating teaching and learning for the future.

Our History

TIA started in 2017 from the vision of Susanna McConnell to create a space for dedicated staff from all departments to meet and discuss best practices throughout the year. With the help of Humanities Educational Partner Valerie Taylor and Principal Steve Ramsey, the group began in January 2017 with 13 members meeting on campus from 3 departments.

Since it's started, the group has met 3 times per semester to share best practices, learn together as educators, and grow as a community of learners. Each session, members reflect on their work, share and create new ideas, and plan for the innovative implementation of effective strategies into their classrooms.

In four years, we have over doubled in size, and grown to include educators from every department on campus.
