This course is the same credit as Principles of Applied Engineering and provides a survey of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will develop engineering communication skills, which include computer graphics, modeling, and presentations, by using a variety of computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects. Upon completing this course, students will understand the various fields of engineering and will be able to make informed career decisions. Further, students will have worked on a design team to develop a product or system. Students will use multiple software applications to prepare and present course assignments.
This course is the first developmental skills class for engineering, based on competitive robotics contests.
This is an extracurricular course where students work on teams to compete in FIRST Robotics contest (FRC, FTC or AVR).
FRC 2689 Team Alpha students are required to be enrolled in either the second or fourth period classes to participate on the team. New to FRC students are required to be on Team Alpha before advancing to Team Apprentice team or class period.
AVR (Drone) contest students will be in the 8th period section with the AVR drone robotics team.

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
