This will be my 28th year teaching at Westlake High School and my 38th year as a public educator.  I am a proud son of two teachers and come from a long line of educators in my family.  I am married and have two children.  My stepdaughter graduated from WHS.  My son is a graduate from Dripping Springs.

I came to Westlake as a basketball/football coach and physical science teacher.  In addition to coaching, I have served as Student Council supervisor on campus for fives years.  I was fortunate to have been selected as the 2014 Eanes ISD Teacher of the Year and WHS Teacher of the Year in 2002, 2007 and 2014 .

Seventeen years ago, WHS Principal Linda Rawlings asked me to start the robotics program at Westlake High School.  It has been a huge learning curve for me in regards to engineering, robotics, programming and fund raising while I feel very comfortable with team management, motivation, competition and outreach.  Our program has become a large part of my personal life not only on campus but in my professional activities as well.  In the years since we started, I have learned SolidWorks, machine shop operation as well as basic programming skills.  Our program has grown to now include FTC and FRC competition teams, Vertical Robotics Challenge and helping to grow the vertical alignment of robotics throughout EISD.  I was honored to have been chosen as a Woodie Flowers Finalists in 2013.

The same year that Robotics was started at WHS, I began my pursuit of my Master's of Education certification.  I was in the first cohort of Partnership for Teacher Excellence Program (PTEP) in Eanes ISD.  I am happy to have been part of this program and cherish the relationships I developed with 8 other fellow teachers within Eanes ISD.

Prior to Westlake, I taught at Irion County ISD in Mertzon, Texas for seven years.  In my seven years there I taught 7-12 grade science and coached multiple sports.  I was head basketball and tennis coach as well assistant football coach.  Additionally, I was the athletic trainer for all students in the school district.  I was selected as the Texas High School Tennis Coaches Association Small Schools Tennis Coach of the Year in 1996.

My first teaching and coaching job was at Bremond ISD in Bremond, Texas.  I was the science department for grades seven thru twelve as well as coached football, basketball, baseball, golf and tennis.  This was the beginning of my professional teaching and coaching career.  I was fortunate to have started under an athletic director that believed coaches must be great in the classroom first.

I graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas with a Bachelors of Science in Education.  I was on scholarship with the 1985 NAIA National Finalists Men's basketball team.  Prior to Wayland, I attended Clarendon Junior College in Clarendon, Texas.  I worked with the basketball team in my two years there.

I consider myself a life long learner and hopefully an example to my students and their parents as such.  Either you are getting better or you are not.  I feel that learning something new all the time makes me a better person.  I thoroughly enjoy my job and working with students in my classes and my teams.

My wife and I enjoy our summer travels each summer and spending time with our two kids and TEAM GRANDGIRL (three grandgirls: 7 years, 1 year and 6 months)
