Course Overview

Creative Writing I is a workshop class with an emphasis on the creative writing process. The content of the course will focus primarily on short stories, poetry, some essays, and articles. The course will consist of 3 basic units: a 12-week short story unit, a 4-week poetry/song lyric unit, and a 2-week essay/article unit. (Please note that these unit time frames are estimated and subject to change.) Students will be writing, revising, and editing in class and at home throughout the term. As part of this process, students will be involved in a variety of activities in an effort to develop their skills and find their individual voices as writers.
