About Me

Hello, my name is Michelle Derr and I am very excited to be teaching Principles of Health Science, Kinesiology I and Kinesiology II for the 2025-2026 school year. This will be my nineth year teaching at Westlake High School and my 11th year overall. 

Originally from Michigan, I began my career as a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer. After working as an Athletic Trainer for 10 years, and having my first child, I was able to transition into teaching Health Science. My main goal as a teacher is to provide a safe and fun classroom climate where my students can challenge themselves and be prepared to enter our advanced classes. In prior years, I have taught Athletic Training, Medical Terminology, and Pharmacy Technician. In addition to teaching, I am the Head Advisor of WHS's Future Health Professions (HOSA) as well as Texas Health Occupations Association's (THOA) Executive Board Secretary.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my two sons and our dog. I am so grateful for this opportunity to teach. As one of my favorite mentors told me, remember it is all about the kids. I look forward to a great school year and to working with your son and/or daughter! Go Chaps :)
