EAB Cheer Philosophy
A student at EAB may begin practicing Cheer as a K5 student! The Lower School (LS) teams help improve coordination while learning the fundamentals of competition. The LS will only compete internally . The goal for LS is to introduce/build fundamentals and enjoy playing the sport while becoming a team member. Sportsmanship is introduced at this level. These levels are based on birth year (2012, 2014, 2016). Please see our Activities & Athletics Handbook for more information.
When entering Middle School (MS), for Cheer only, there is the ability to make the JV team. JV for students born on August 2, 2009 or later. There is an increase in the intensity and knowledge base for athletes. While fundamentals are still important and being built at this level, others areas like competitiveness, discipline and performance understanding begin to form. The goal for JV is to expand/develop fundamentals and enjoy improving in the sport while becoming a team member. Sportsmanship is continually taught and expanded on.
The High School (HS) consists of Varsity teams with students being 15 years and older. While still stressing fundamentals at this level, there is an increase in competitiveness, training, tactics and mental preparation. If possible, the team competes or has local demonstrations. These teams generally travel to compete in the tournaments when possible and with a healthy roster. The goal for Varsity is to apply past skills and learnings, compete at a high level while working to maximize each individual’s potential and form deeper relationships with teammates and coaches. Sportsmanship is an expectation to exhibit at all times when representing a Varsity team.
