NYS Resources for School Success and Activities for Early Learners
Jennifer Talarico, Orleans/Niagara BOCESParticipants will walk through the NYSED Office of Early Learning Resource for School Success publications and video series for grades Pre-K - 2, as well as be given any updates from NYSED. As a group we will then discuss the importance and benefits of play for early learners, explore resources and activity ideas, and see where they could fit in our teaching in this unprecedented beginning of the school year.

Participants will hear an overview of the On-Demand Science Journals and view the menu of options. They will discover how to create their own as well as add their own material to the journals they create for their students.

We will look at using phenomena for instructional activities and as anchoring phenomena through the lens of the crosscutting concepts.

iMapinvasives in Your Backyard
Emily Caboot, APCSD, and Laura Lehtonen, Capital Region BOCESIn this session, we will discuss a quick overview of the NYSDEC Invasive Species Curriculum for 6-12 Science classrooms as well as identify and discuss common invasive species in NY that can be found in your backyard. It would be helpful for students to have a phone or smart device to collect neighborhood or backyard data on invasive plant populations but it is not necessary. Along with this overview, we will introduce participants to the data collection app iMapinvasives and a quick how-to to use in the classroom. Come outside with us!
