E-Sports

Willow Canyon High School is excitied to join a growing E-Sports community here in Arizona. The AIA and the Dysart Unified School District are proud to support Wildcats as we compete in the first year of competitive play. Our goal is to be CHAMPIONS!

Due to a new rule from AIA and PlayVS the 2020/2021 season now have Varsity teams. They are divided between VARSITY and RECREATION (JV/FROSH) esports. There is one Varsity LoL and one Varsity RL team. Those teams can compete for state championships. Recreation teams are unlimited in number (limited only by the number of PCs we have. They will act as feeders and training squads for Varsity and will compete against other state and national squads.

PARENT INFORMATION: Some parents have concerns if E-Sports is a sport and how video gaming ties in with our schools vision. Esports is a growing activity around the country and in the state. Last year over 46 major D1 universities had computer gaming majors and offered over $100 million in scholarships. More than 151 universities have E-Sports programs including Grand Canyon University, University of Arizona, ASU, NAU, and most of the community colleges. A full list of universities around the country and scholarship offers can be found here.

More information can be here or by contacting Coach Alfred at jon.alfred@dysart.org or by phone at 623-523-8000 ext 4051

STUDENT INFORMATION: Our expecations at Willow is that our athletes are students first and athletes second. Students who do not have an unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a weekly grade check will not be eligible for that week's games. All athletes are expected to be leaders in our sport and on campus. Personal behavior will also be taken into consideration before weekly teams are set. Coach will communicate with your teachers to ensure that we are role models for all people on and off campus.
