Reading, Grammar and Writing

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

We will be using a brand new curriculum called SAVAAS.

Our writing and reading standards and objectives are:

This year we will be writing a write a five paragraph essay with an introduction, three main points and a conclusion using evidence from the text to support the points .  We will use capital letters and correct end marks.

When reading, we  will concentrate on the main idea and summarize what we read. We will look for story structure and  text evidence to support our answers to comprehension questions.

I beg you to have your child read 20 minutes or more every night. Reading out loud would be best, with you beside them listening. They must practice their reading skills every day. This skill is linked to all areas of life and is of utmost importance. Your child should be reading 100 words a minute by the middle of the year and telling you 50% back of what they read. By the end of 4th grade, your child should be reading 115 words per minute (about small two paragraphs) in order to be successful in the beginning of 5th grade.

We will write through mediums such as Google Documents and on sheets of paper.
