Attendance
Good attendance is a critical piece of a successful school year. The school day begins at 9:00 am and dismissal is at 3:45. On Mondays, we dismiss at 1:45. Early release (on half-days) is also 1:45.
Please call the attendance line 623-523-8750 & email your teacher if your child will be absent.
Absence Makeup Work - If your child is absent, they will have two days for every day absent to make up the work. For example: Absent 1 day = 2 extra days to turn in missing work.
Grades
Grades are based on classroom assignments and participation (30%), assessments (60%), and homework (10%). Two categories (classroom assignments and assessments) are graded; credit is given for class participation and homework. A combination of all four areas contributes to your child's grades.
The daily work your child does as classroom assignments is a highly important piece of his or her grade. When students see that their daily efforts are recognized, this builds confidence, teaches perseverance, and allows students to see the correlation between their work and their grade. Work that is not completed satisfactorily will be redone, often with support. Our goal is to learn...and sometimes that takes more than one try!
Assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate skills and knowledge learned. These are usually independent tasks and are one way that I hold students personally accountable for their progress. Assessment grades are less frequent than daily work grades, but also include benchmark assessments.
Classroom participation includes group work, participation in discussions, sharing strategies, and contributing thoughtful ideas and suggestions. Credit will be given for participating and students will know when they are being given participation points.
The grading scale will be:
90-100% E Exceeds the standard
80-89% S Meets the standard with support
70-79% P Progressing towards the standard
69% and below N Work does not meet the standard. Student is not able to demonstrate the standard.
