Below you will find a list of The Five Big Ideas of Reading and Letter Recognition. Your student can select a components and then choose a Home Activity and then play a game.

*Sight words are meant to be read quickly and not sounded out. Please practice sight words regularly. You can read off the list, play games, make flashcards, etc.

*Phonemic Awareness- The ability to notice, think about and work with individual sounds.

*Letter Recognition- Ability to know name and sound of upper and lower case letters.

*Phonics- Letter sound relation to reading and spelling words accurately and quickly.

*Vocabulary- Understanding of new words and concepts.

*Fluency- Reading quickly and accurately, and with expression.

*Comprehension- Making meaning of text and communicate meaning about what was read.
