Teaching Supports:
Try different writing tools such as special pens, paper, pencils, markers, colors, chalk for fun writing/coloring.
Use various writing surfaces such as writing on a slant board, hanging work on the whiteboard, or some sort of vertical/slanged surface to improve the visual field when writing.
Provide various sensory tools to increase the student’s level of attention and alertness as needed.
Arrange a “check-in” time to organize his day.
Provide letter and number strips for the student to reference to
Use a variety of strategies (magnetic letters, wood pieces, playdoh, etc.) to introduce letters/numbers to build on automaticity and recall.
May provide starting points for letters/numbers
Highlighter to write letters and then have the student trace. Make sure to fade this support quickly so that student doesn’t become dependent on this.
Provide preprinted notes/worksheets
Allow students to scribe or the chance to dictate
Decrease amount of written work
Accept computer generated projects
