Learners demonstrate STEM literacy outcomes that prepare them for the next level of learning and work.
Students at Sierra Verde start learning about coding vocabulary almost the second they step foot onto our campus. Students in kindergarten are learning to code robots (Sphero Indi) and even code a video game with the Codespark App. With the computer science rollout our district and school believes in the continuum of content as it pertains to our digital learners. It is a gradual progression that begins in kindergarten and it builds foundational stepping stones that continually prepares them for the next progression of rigor. The data below is the pre-assessment given to every 3rd grader. At the end of 3rd grade our goal is that 95% of all 3rd graders score 90% or above on this Coding Vocabualry post-assessment. Our belief is that putting an emphasis on coding vocabulary will increase the students computational output when writing computer code that will last the remainder of their time at Sierra Verde.
