Executive Council meets weekly or biweekly per the needs of the organization after school, and is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and reflecting on chapter events, procedures, and goals. Executive Council Directors also serve as the heads of their respective committees, which meet weekly during lunch. This leadership is an indispensible part of the efforts of SkillsUSA here at WHS: these leaders are the face of the organization, and are the ones who make things happen not only on campus, but within the community and ensure our competitors are prepared and celebrated.
For information about the individual roles, see our current Student Leaders page.
In early Spring, the SkillsUSA executive board will appoint a nominating committee made up of teachers, advisors, students, and administrators with the purpose of seeking out talented leaders in our CTE pathways. Pathways teachers may be asked about leaders who are showing up in their programs, which may come in the form of CTE Ambassadorship, general classroom leadership, or work in other clubs and programs. To be nominated, be seen! Express interest to your teachers, and have a conversation about what you can bring to the SkillsUSA Executive Council!
The nominating committee will communicate their interest to you--if you are interested in continuing the process, an interest form will be provided to you, which will ask for information about your grade level, reason for your interest, and qualities you will bring to the organization. This will then lead to scheduled interviews--be watching for email communications to ensure you stay up to date with the process.
Interviews will take place with the nominating committee and Program Advisors. Interviews will only take about 15 minutes, and may include questions about your interest, skills, and goals, to name a few. Interviews do not require formal dress, but students should prepare their thoughts and be ready to provide specific details and experiences in preparation.
The slate of nominees put forward by the nominating committee will then go to all membership for final approval at an association meeting of membership. Members may vote to approve the nominees, or may provide write-ins as well. Highest total vote-getter will be approved for the job.
The Pathways Council runs in alignment with the CTE Ambassador program, and works to ensure that all 14 pathways on campus are represented, have a voice, and are connected to what SkillsUSA has to offer. These positions are appointed by pathways teachers---to get involved here, talk to them!
