Downey Kiwanis Foundation Bennie & Ann Reagan
Bennie and Ann Reagan were longtime residents of Downey, and pursuant to a bequest by their estates, this scholarship was established. This bequest reflects the commitment that both of these stellar citizens had in charitable causes, both locally and nationally. This scholarship is need-based and will be awarded in $3,750 increments over a consecutive four period to a student enrolled full time in a college or university that awards a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The student will be re-evaluated each year to ensure that the terms of the award are being met.

Downey Kiwanis Foundation - David Bruce Barnes Memorial
David Bruce Barnes was a Warren High graduate in 1962. He was a Northrop Aviation test pilot who was killed in a crash in Goose Bay, Labrador, on May 14, 1985, while making a practice flight to demonstrate the F-20 Tiger Shark in preparation for the 1985 Paris International Air Show. This scholarship was established in order to memorialize David and to recognize those shared qualities that were important to him: dedication to pursuing a chosen education, academic excellence, character, and participation in school and community affairs.

Downey Kiwanis Foundation - Everett Family Memorial Scholarship
Booker and Enid Everett were longtime residents of Downey, and pursuant to a bequest by their estates, these five scholarships were established. This bequest reflects the commitment that both of these stellar citizens had to supporting future small business owners and entrepreneurs. These scholarships are presented to students who have demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing a career in business. These scholarships are awarded in two installments of $5,000 upon supporting documentation that the student is either enrolled in college or is pursuing the development of a small business.

Risher Mortuary and Cremation
Risher Mortuary has been "family owned" since its establishment in 1959 by Ray and Marge Risher. Barbara Risher Welch along with her husband Greg, have continued the family legacy, dedicating it as their ministry to the bereaved. Second Corinthians 1:4 tells us to "comfort those in their time of sorrow, as God has comforted us in our sorrow". In pursuing their commitment to community and service, The Risher Mortuary "Caring For Others" Scholarship was created to recognize a student with similar values and the pledge to remain dedicated to helping others in need.

Downey Sister Cities The Downey Sister Cities Organization was established in 1956. After World War II former President Eisenhower requested cities of different countries and cultures to connect. Downey Sister Cities' main focus is to promote cooperation and engagement with global partners on issues of mutual interest particularly in the areas of education, public safety, and culture. As a nonprofit organization, they have a series of fundraiser events to help pay for trips and supplies to support other cities and each other.

TJ Peacock Most Inspirational Athlete Award
TJ Peacock graduated from Warren High School in 2006. TJ made the freshmen baseball team but was unable to play as he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Once he was no longer able to play baseball, TJ focused on golf and eventually become the team captain. Sadly, TJ passed away just 4 days before his 19th birthday. The TJ Peacock Most Inspirational Athlete Award goes to a student that exemplifies TJ’s determination to persevere through all of life’s challenges.

Each year the Warren High School Athletic Department honors one boy and one girl as Athlete of the Year recipient. Each must participate and letter at the varsity level. Coaches’ nominations and subsequent voting within the athletic department select the recipients.
