Counselling and Wellbeing Support

Add Headings and they will appear in your table of contents.

What is Counselling?

Counsellors are professionally trained and highly qualified; they hold a set of specialised knowledge, skills and understandings that enable them to offer students a safe space to explore their problems and concerns. The relationship that is developed between the counsellor and the student is underpinned by deep respect and non judgemental acceptance.

A counsellor is someone that you can trust and be open with. They will listen carefully and sensitively and will try to see things from your point of view. A counsellor will encourage you to make your own decisions and support you in any changes you decide to make.

How can Counselling help me?

A counsellor can help you think about things in new ways by exploring your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Counselling can help you to get to know yourself better and develop new ways of thinking and living. A counsellor can support you to address anything that causes you emotional upset or challenges your happiness and sense of self-worth.

What should I do if I'm distressed and the Counsellor is not available?

The Wellbeing Note has been designed so that when you are feeling distressed and the counsellor is busy or unavailable you can get the support that you need without needing to explain to someone you dont know very well. It also lets the office know so your attendance can be marked. The Notes can be found outside the counsellors office.
